Sloths are the slowest mammals on earth and among the most misunderstood. Their slowness is not a limitation — it is an extraordinarily precise metabolic strategy. By moving slowly and eating leaves with minimal nutritional value, sloths have evolved to require almost no energy, allowing them to survive where faster animals would starve.
Sloths descend from their trees only once a week to defecate — spending up to 90% of their lives motionless in the forest canopy. Their fur hosts entire ecosystems of algae, moths, beetles, and fungi that exist nowhere else on earth. Three-toed sloths have a fixed cervical vertebrae arrangement that allows them to rotate their heads 270 degrees.
Sloths have inhabited South and Central American rainforests in some form for 64 million years.
All The Fauna sloth designs are for the person who knows that deliberate is not the same as slow.
