Eagles are among the most powerful and visually acute birds of prey on earth. Bald eagles can spot a fish from 2 miles away and dive at speeds exceeding 100 mph. Golden eagles — one of the most widely distributed raptors in the northern hemisphere — have been documented taking prey as large as young deer.
There are over 60 recognized species of eagle worldwide, inhabiting environments from Arctic coastline to tropical rainforest. Eagles mate for life, returning to the same nest year after year and adding to it each season until the structure can weigh over a ton.
Their visual acuity is estimated to be four to eight times sharper than human vision, allowing them to process detail and movement at distances that are literally invisible to us.
